Mintri, Khosla and Vineeta cause major upset
Chandigarh, May 20 (UNI) Two local unseeded players, Ayush Mintri (boys Under-16) and Utkarsh Khosla (boys Under-12) and unseeded Vineeta Singh (girls Under-12) of Delhi pulled off major upsets in the ongoing AITA Talent Series Tennis Championship being held here today.
193rd ranked with just two AITA points to his credit, qualifier Utkarsh Khosla of Chandigarh, toppled top seed Nikhuj Poddar of West Bengal, who is ranked 54th with 14 points, in straight sets 4-2, 4-0 to maintain his winning spree and moved into quarter-finals in the boys under-12 category.
In an all-CLTA trainees pre-quarter-final contest Ayush Mintri upset the apple cart of top seed Aviraj Kamboj 6-2, 4-6, 6-4.
Ayush's opponent in the quarter-final will be qualifier Samin Bhargava of Chandigarh who upset eighth seed Amit Bzad of Punjab 7-6 (2), 6-3.
Talented Vineeta Singh of Delhi rallied to shut the door on second seed Harleen Wadhwa, also of Delhi, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4.
