Internet classes to help Oz students hone reading and writing skills

Melbourne, May 20 : Future Aussie classrooms would soon see games meant for speeding up reading and writing through internet classes.

It is just a matter of a few months that Australia's first super-learning laboratory will open in Melbourne and one will see the development of new technologies and teaching methods.

According to Victorian Education Minister Bronwyn Pike, bringing the smartest technology to classrooms, the lab will keep boredom at bay and would help in ameliorating students' reading and writing and open up new learning.

The Ideas Lab, based in Broadmeadows, will be a collaborative effort of private technology companies, researchers and the Victorian Government for developing new ideas for schools.

While addressing the World Congress on Information Technology in Kuala Lumpur, Pike said that the computer firm Intel would sign a partnership deal with the Victorian Government, joining Microsoft in pledging funding of 500,000 dollars over three years.

The lab is based on the lines of the Futurelab model in Bristol, England, and will run a pilot project for three years. Pike also said that the experts would take web-based technologies from the lab to the classroom.

"Students will test creative and innovative computer programs to accelerate their reading and writing," News.com.au quoted her, as saying.
