Criticism against IPL unfounded: Srikanth

Chennai, May 20 (UNI) Former India captain Krishnamachari Srikanth today strongly refuted criticism that Indian Premier League(IPL) was only being utilised by the respective franchise owners of the teams to push up their brands and that cricket had taken the back seat.

Srikanth, who did not agree with this criticism against IPL, answering a question by a reporter, after inaugurating the 'Golden Bat' contest for Aircel mobile phone service provider merely said '' such criticism is always there.'' ''But the truth is that IPL T20 league has attracted success. '' It's cricket with entertainment and you are enjoying it and I am enjoying it'', he observed.

''It's cricketainment'', Srikkanth said, adding young talents like Badrinath and Vidhyut Siva, H S Goni are benefitting immensly playing alongside the stars in IPL.

Meanwhile, leading mobile service provider Aircel, one of the sponsors of Chennai Super Kings team in the ongoing DLF IPL announced the 'Golden Bat' contest for its prepaid customers.

Srikanth and Aircel Director K V P Baskar said the offer would be on a season's special Rs 55 'Golden Bat' recharge coupen.

The winner of the contest would be gifted a one kilo golden cricket bat worth of Rs 12 lakhs, while 15 second prize winners would get one lakh worth golden bats, 25 third prize winners would get golden bats worth Rs 50,000 each and 50 consolation prize winners golden bats worth Rs 25,000 each.

He said the contest was in line with the promotion of IPL Chennai Super Kings and Aircel association.
