Almost two-thirds of Brit women unaware of heart disease risk
London, May 19 : A new research has revealed that almost two-thirds of Brit women are not aware that heart disease is the main cause of death among females.
The study also showed that 78 per cent of women are not aware of the fact that they are at greatest risk once they have gone through the menopause, reports the Scotsman.
Almost half of respondents believed that the decline in oestrogen as a result of the menopause either had no effect on, or reduced, cholesterol levels.
Health-food product company Benecol said that decline in oestrogen often causes an increase in the amount of cholesterol in the blood and 88 per cent of women aged 55-64 have high levels.
According to the British Heart Foundation, heart disease accounts for 275 deaths in the UK every day.
