Finance company robbed of over Rs 2 crore
Ludhiana, May 19 (UNI) An unspecified number of thieves robbed gold ornaments and cash, estimated to be around Rs 2.50 crore from the office premises of a prominent finance company on Millergaj Road in the city.
SSP R K Jaiswal told mediapersons here today that the robbery was noticed this morning by the employees of Muthoot Finance, a well known finance company. The locks on the front entrance of the office were found intact by the employees in the morning, indicating that the robbery could have been the handiwork of an 'insider', the SSP said.
Giving details, Mr Jaiswal said that the robbers had entered the office by opening the locks at the entrance, probably on Saturday or Sunday night. The gold ornaments' jewellery and cash was found missing from the safe by the employees, he added.
Around Rs 2.78 lakh in cash and gold ornaments and jewellery worth Rs 2.47 crore were found missing from the office safe, he said. The gold ornaments and jewellery was mortgaged by customers who had taken loans from the company, which has two other offices in the city.
The SSP said that a case has been registered and investigations have been launched. So far no arrests had been made.
