Police resorts to lathi charge to disperse agitating mob
Gulbarga, May 18 (UNI) Police today resorted to lathi charge to disperse a group of farmers, who launched 'fast to death' in front of the Tahasildar office at Jewargi, about 40 km from here, demanding action against former Karnataka Chief Minister N Dharam Singh.
Police said Raitu Horata Samithi leader Kedarlingaiah Hiremath is contesting as an independent candidate from Jewargi Constituency against Mr Singh.
The Samithi alleged Mr Singh was distributing money to influence voters.
The police resorted to lathi charge to disperse the agitators. No one was injured in the incident.
Talking to media, Mr Hiremath alleged that Mr Singh had assured a number of villages that he would donate huge amount of money to construct temples.
Despite bringing it to the notice of election officers, no action had been taken so far, he added.
The police arrested 15 people in this connection and registered two criminal cases against them. The situation in Jewargi was stated to be peaceful and under control, police added.
