Patiala on firm footing in Punjab Under-16 cricket

By Staff

Patiala,May 18 (UNI) Patiala are firmly placed against Jalandhar on the opening day of the two-day Punjab Inter-District cricket for M L Markan Trophy (Under-16) here at the Dhruv Pandove Cricket Stadium.

Winning the toss, and fielding first, Jalandhar were skittled out for 113 in 47.5 overs against Patiala's hostile bowling. Anmol Luthra (35) and Bhupinder Singh (27) were the only Jalandhar batsmen who played with some confidence. The rest of the batsmen fell like nine pins against the penetrative bowling.

For Patiala, Sandeep Sharma bowled a nagging length to capture four wickets, conceding 26 runs. Karan Kaila was the other bowler who showed some promise, taking three wickets for just seven runs.

Patiala, in reply, were going great guns, having scored 226 for one in 52 overs at close of play. Vikrandit Ghuman, who had notched up a breezy century in the opening match against Minor Districts here, is in great form. He is 157 not out which he compiled in great style. Giving him company is Shivam Goyal with 60 not out.

For Jalandhar, Kamaljit took one for 50, while the other bowlers were at the receiving end.
