HM commander among two militants arrested, RDX recovered in Kashmir
Srinagar, May 18 (UNI) A self styled commander of Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) was among two militants arrested, and deadly RDX and other arms and ammunition were recovered in the Kashmir valley overnight.
Superintendent of Police (SP), Handwara, Dr Haseeb Mughal said a joint operation was launched by the police and 30 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) at village Chak Sanzipora in the frontier district of Kupwara following a tip off about the presence of militants.
When the security forces were about to storm a particular house, militants opened fire ensuing a fierce exchange.
However, the militant later surrendered, he said, adding that one AK rifle, three magzines, 40 rounds of ammunition, two UBGL grenades and one hand grenade were recovered from the possession of the militant identified as Shaheen Ahmad Malik alias Sajad alias Usman, a battalion commander of HM.
He said Malik, a B-category militant, was involved in several militancy related incidents.
A police spokesman said 62 RR, 166 CRPF and police arrested another militant along with one hand grenade and 1.5 kg deadly RDX at Nowgam.
