Bhiwani, May 18 (UNI) Haryana Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Kiran Chaudhry today said the state Government was making all out efforts to promote sports in a big way.
Interacting with mediapersons here, she said the Bhim Stadium here would be developed as a sports hub and a sum of Rs 35 crore would be spent to provide various sports facilities, latest techniques and training and for the extension of the Stadium.
A sum of about Rs 2.5 crore would be spend for the construction of Badminton hall and about Rs 83 lakh for the construction of Kabaddi Hall of this stadium.
The Minister said that the work on the hockey astroturf would soon be started at a cost of Rs 3.5 crore which would provide latest and international level facilities for grooming the hockey players. The stadium would be expanded and land of about eight acre would be included in it.
Similarly, a sum of Rs 52 lakh would be spent for the Kho-Kho, Volleyball, Basketball and Cricket grounds of this stadium.
Mrs Chaudhry said that former Agriculture Minister and her husband, the late Surinder Singh had a keen interest in sports. To fulfill his dream of developing a sports culture in the state, the Government had given approval for the construction of a sports hostel of the Indian Sports Authority over an area of 10 acre at village Bapora in the district. This hostel would be built at a cost of about Rs 100 crore.
She said that when she apprised the Union Sports Minister M S Gill about the remarkable achievements of players of SAI Hostel, he readily agreed on the demand of a hostel for them. It is worth mentioning here that only five sportspersons were selected from all over the country to play in the Olympics-2008 scheduled to be held at Beijing. Four of them belonged to SAI Hostel, Bhiwani. She reminded that Sports Hostel of Bhiwani was established by Surinder Singh in the year 1986.
