Howrah, May 17 (UNI) St Britto's High School of Goa defeated Bangalore's Angels High School after a tie-breaker in the under-15 football match organised by Tata Tea here today.
The Tata Tea Arsenal Soccer Star National Tournament, which was held at Howrah Municipal Corporation stadium, witnessed the final match of the company's maiden tournament.
With an aim to creating future soccer talents, the Tata Tea in association with Arsenal FC of UK organised the tournament to identify and nurture football talents below 15-years at school level.
The tournament, which was a mix of league and knock-out matches, saw 16 teams from various schools across seven cities like Bangalore, Calicut, Goa, Delhi, Mumbai, Shillong and Kolkata fighting out in the finals.
Tata Tea Executive Director (Marketing) Sangeeta Talwar handed over the trophy to the winning team.
The trophy for Highest Goal Scorer went to Myron Fernandes of St Britto's High School, while the Most Valuable Player trophy went to Karim Mistry of St Lawrence High School, Kolkata.
Avijeet Dey of A S C School, Bangalore bagged the 'Best Goal-Keeper'.
Ms Talwar also informed that 30 talented players were selected as Tata Tea Arsenal Soccer Stars from the zonal finals and will receive a two-week training from Indian and Arsenal coaches in Kolkata and Shillong in June 2008.
Of these 15 most talented boys would recieve further training at Arsenal training camp in the UK as well as entry to the much awaited Arsenal International Soccer Festival in London in July 2008.
