Srinagar, May 17 (UNI) Six militants of Pakistan based Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and a self styled District Commander of Lashkar-e-Toiba were killed and another was arrested in the Kashmir valley overnight.
A Defence ministry spokesman said troops of 42 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) along with Special Operation Group (GOG) and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) launched a joint operation in village Dudh Kalyan, five km from Tral in South Kashmir district of Pulwama today following a tip-off about militants presence .
When the security forces were about to seal a particular area militants opened fire. The fire was returned and in the ensuring gun-battle six militants were killed.
Official sources said four of the slain militants were Pakistani residents while two were locals.
They said six AK rifles and other arms and ammunition were recovered from the slain militants.
A Lashkar-e-Toiba militant wes killed by security forces at Bandipora in North Kashmir. One AK rifle and other arms and ammunition were recovered from the slain militant identified as Tanveer, a self styled district commander.
Troops arrested a militant along with arms and ammunition in Kupwara.
