11th battalion of J
Jalandhar, May 17 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry's 11th Battalion today celebrated its Diamond Jubilee somewhere in the western sector.
11 JAKLI, one of the oldest unitS of the Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry Regiment, was raised 60 years ago by late Brig (then Lt Col) Kapil Dev Pachnanda on May 17, 1948, at the majestic Moti Mahal, Poonch by assorting the sub-units of the erstwhile Poonch Scouts.
Within three months of raising, the Battalion undertook some daring operations clearing the entire Mandi area of Pakistani marauders, which was a great example of fearlessness, bravery, grit, courage and iron-will. The Battalion was one of the very first to fight for defending the integrity of our nation, since those early days, the Battalion had come a long way to become a regular Unit of the Indian Army on April 27, 1976.
The grand celebrations on the occasion of Diamond Jubilee was a kaleidoscope of festivities that lasted three days.
The festive occasion was made special and momentous by a huge gathering of 'veer naris', ex-commanding officers, retired and serving officers, junior commissioned officers and ex-servicemen.
