SUCI to observe " protest day " tomorrow
Kolkata, May 16 (UNI) The Socialist Unity Centre of India would observe a "protest day" tomorrow throughout West Bengal in protest against the CPI(M)'s hooliganism during the Panchayat elections in the state.
Talking to newspersons here, SUCI MLA Debaprasad Sarkar alleged that the May 14 panchayat elections held at Moipith of Kultali in South 24-parganas was a " farce " because the CPI(M) hooligans had captured all the booths and rigged freely.
At least seven people were killed and as many injured in the post poll-related violences so far.
He alleged that the CPI(M) with the support of the administration, police and the party's criminal forces had jointly taken control of the election in the fascist way in Moipith and the people failed to cast their votes.
The Moipith incidents have a similarity with the ones that took place in Nandigram, Mr Sarkar said.
'' We have sent a letter to the State Election Commissioner and the District Magistrate of South 24-parganas demanding repolling of 15 booths in Moipith and four booths of Joynagar by deploying Central forces for conducting free and fair polls,'' he said.
