Puducherry should opt for spl category status: BJP leader
Puducherry, May 16 (UNI) BJP state president M Visweswaran today said Puducherry should opt for special category state status instead of statehood.
Addressing a press conference here, he said Puducherry could survive it's financial requirements only under the special cateogry state status.
He said if L K Advani becomes Prime Minister after the next Parliament election, the BJP would certainly confer special cateogry state status on Puducherry.
Alleging that the Union Government had failed to contain price rise and extremism, he urged for the revival of Prevention of Terrorism Act (POTA).
Referring to the allegations that the BJP here had joined hands with CPM on the JIPMER issue, he said since it pertained to people for providing free treatment to 5,000 a day and nominal fees to study medicine. Therefore, there was nothing wrong in the party joining with the CPM to fight against the move to grant autonomous status to JIPMER.
Mr Visweswaran said the removal of party district presidents was done as per the party guidelines and the allegations against him by those removed was intended to malign the BJP.
