JD(U) favours revocation of creamy-layer
Patna, May 16: The JD(U) today demanded the Centre to implement all recommendations of the Mandal Commission as the Constitution has no provisions on barring a section of society from reservation facilities on the basis of creamy-layer.
Several party leaders, including former ministers Vishwa Mohan Kumar and Monazir Hassan, in a press conference stated the concept of creamy-layer propounded by Supreme Court, while delivering a verdict on petition challenging the implementation of the commission in mid 90s, had defeated the very purpose of reservation for backward section of the society.
''The backlog in government services against 27 per cent reservation for OBCs has not been filled up for the last 14 years due to creamy layer consideration,'' they lamented adding that such restrictions were baseless and against the spirit of social justice.
The party also demanded formation of a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) to consider the revocation of creamy-layer restiction while extending the reservation facilities to OBCs in government services.
