Girls outshine boys in Science and Commerce exams
Shillong, May 16 (UNI) Girls in Meghalaya outshone their male counterparts in both the Science and Commerce streams in State Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate (HSSLC) Examinations.
In the Science stream, the overall pass percentage of female candidates was 68.70 while that of boys was 57.94 per cent.
The pass percentage of girls was 92.71 per cent and that of boys was 81.38 in Commerce.
Out of 2519 students, who appeared in the science examination, 1576 cleared the exams. The overall pass percentage was 62.56 per cent. 587 students secured first, 897 second, 79 students third divisions.
Similarly in commerce stream, the total number of students appeared were 1449 of which 1226 passed. 224 students secured first division, 607 second, 355 got third division.
Purba Chatterjee of St Anthony's Higher Secondary School, Shillong, secured first rank in the State in the Science stream with a total mark of 450. While, Bikash Bhattacharjee of St Edmund's' College topped the Commerce stream with total 436 marks.
Students from West Khasi Hills district fared the best with a pass percentage of 71.15 per cent in the Science stream and 100 per cent pass percentage in Commerce, said MBoSE Controller of Examinations G G Momin.
