Mumbai May 16 (UNI) Etihad Airways today announced the launch of daily flights from its Abu Dhabi home-base to Kozhikode and Chennai from August 1.
The airline will operate a daily service to both the cities.
Flight EY250 will depart from Abu Dhabi at 2335 hrs and arrive in Kozhikode at 0500 hrs the next day. Return flight EY251 will depart from Kozhikode at 0545 hrs and arrive at Abu Dhabi at 0800 am the same day, the airliner said in a release here today.
The new Chennai service will operate as -- flight EY266 on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays, departing from Abu Dhabi at 0850 hrs, arriving in Chennai at 1430 hrs. On Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, the service will operate as -- flight EY268, departing from Abu Dhabi at 1345 hrs and arriving in Chennai at 1925 hrs.
Return flight EY267 will depart from Chennai on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays at 1515 hrs, arriving in Abu Dhabi at 1745 hrs the same day. On Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, the service will operate as -- flight EY269, departing from Chennai at 2020 hrs and arrive in the UAE capital at 2250 hrs.
Etihad Airways chief executive, James Hogan said in the release that Etihad wanted to build up its Indian services and looks forward to expand its flying programme to the country with the launch of these two exciting new destinations. Etihad will operate a two class Airbus A320 on both the Kozhikode and Chennai routes configured to carry 140 passengers with 20 in business class and 120 in economy class.
The coastal city of Kozhikode will be Etihad's third destination in Kerala, to add to its highly successful flights to Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram.
He said addition of the two new cities, brought the number of Indian destinations served by Etihad to six and follows successful bilateral talks between the governments of the UAE and India , aimed at further liberalising flying links between the two countries.
These talks also saw Etihad being awarded traffic rights to two more cities in India, Kolkata and Jaipur. The airline is finalising the launch dates for these additional destinations.
Etihad currently operates 28 flights a week from UAE to India, with flights from Abu Dhabi to Mumbai, New Delhi and also Thiruvananthapuram and Kochi.
Subject to governmental approvals, the airline is pushing to secure further traffic rights from Abu Dhabi to Ahmedabad, Amritsar, Bangalore and Hyderabad.
