Bangalore, May 16 (UNI) Karnataka Directorate of Home Guards would conduct a five-day International Conference and Exhibition on Disaster Management here next month with a focus on global warming and climate change.
Briefing newspersons on the conference, DGP and Commandant General Home Guards Jija Harisingh said participants from several countries and from all the Indian states would take part. Besides, industries, NGOs and government bodies working for mitigating of disasters -- both man-made and natural, would attend the conference.
Defence agencies like DRDO, LRDE, ADE, and Army unit MEG, police units like Grey Hounds of Andhra Pradesh, NDRF, CISF, BSF and CRPF would be attending in the conference and display a wide range of gadgets, machinery and equipment as well as literature pertaining to the prevention and management of disaster in the exhibition, she said.
Eminent speakers from the US, Nepal, Bhutan, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Philippines, UAE, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Maldives, UK would speak on improving geospatial support for disaster management, role of technology, engineering in urban disaster mitigation and public participation and awareness programmes.
More than 1000 delegates from all over the country are likely to visit the exhibition and attend the conference, she said.
The main objective of the exhibition and conference was being held to sensitise the officials and agencies connected with disaster management and mitigation, Ms Singh added.
