Bangalore, May 16 (UNI) The decision to transfer of Bellary Superintendent of Police Amrit Pal was taken following a report submitted by central poll observers in the district, Karnataka Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) M N Vidyashankar said today.
Speaking to reporters here he said the SP was transferred in connection with the alleged attack on a Congress worker by former BJP minister Sriramulu and yesterday.
The EC had also issued order asking Sathyanarayana Rao, DIG (Northern Eastern Range), to take charge from the transferred official, he said.
Mr Sriramulu, contesting from Bellary Rural assembly seat allegedly attacked a Congress worker while campaigning.
Taking serious note of the incident the EC and failure on part of the Bellary police not arresting the BJP leader, the EC had ordered the SP's transfer Mr Sriramulu was said to have 'absconded' after the incident and he later obtained an anticipatory bail from a court and surrendered before the police yesterday evening.
