Action on Bellary SP on Observers' report: CEO
Bangalore, May 16 (UNI) The decision to transfer Bellary Superintendent of Police Amrit Pal was taken following a report submitted by Central poll observers in the district, Karnataka Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) M N Vidyashankar said today.
Speaking to reporters here, he said the SP was transferred in connection with the alleged attack on a Congress worker by former BJP Minister Sriramulu yesterday.
The EC had also issued order asking Mr Sathyanarayana Rao, DIG (Northern Eastern Range), to take charge from the transferred official, he said.
Mr Sriramulu, contesting from Bellary Rural Assembly seat, allegedly attacked a Congress worker while campaigning.
Taking serious note of the incident and the failure on part of the Bellary police, the EC had ordered the SP's transfer.
Mr Sriramulu who was said to have 'absconded' after the incident later obtained an anticipatory bail from a court and surrendered before the police last evening.
