{image-raj nath singh_15052008.jpg news.oneindia.in}Hyderabad, May 15: Expressing concern over reports that China was establishing a nuclear submarine base hardly 1200 nautical miles away from the Straits of Malacca, BJP President Rajnath Singh today said the Congress-led UPA government's alleged ''conspicuous complacency'' on sensitive issues could jeopardise the country's territorial integrity.

Addressing a press conference here, he said Beijing had also deployed its Jin class underground nuclear submarine at a new military base at Sanya on the Hainan Island in South China sea. China had never operated in the Indian Ocean region hitherto, but its presence could be strongly felt in the Malacca Strait and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, he noted, urging the UPA government to ensure that China's strategic expansion was not at India's cost.

It was surprising that 140 incidents of ''trespassing'' by Chinese Army into Indian territory during 2007 had been dismissed casually by the UPA Government, he opined.

Constructuion of a sea port at Gwadar in Pakistan, installation of radar at Coco Islands in Myanmar and construction of another airport at Humban Tota in Sri Lanka, had mounted pressure on countries in the South Asia in general and India in particular, he said.
