Vijayawada, May 15 (UNI) As many as 1,200 advocates in the city today boycotted work, protesting against the acid attack on the State Bar Council member Veluri Srinivasa Reddy in his office on May 13.

Terming the attack as highly deplorable, the advocates from Bezawada Bar Association (BBA) decided to abstain from work.

The Association members during its emergency meeting yesterday felt that the state government should protect the advocates, on the lines of protection provided to junior doctors when they went on strike following an assault by the deceased patients' relatives few months ago in Hyderabad.

The members also decided to send a representation to the state government.

Mr Reddy, a practising lawyer, has sustained severe burn injuries on his face when the culprit George entered his office with an acid bottle and threw it on his face. Though the advocate was rushed to a nearby private hospital, the doctors found that his eyes were damaged.

Later, he was taken to Shankar Netralaya in Chennai yesterday, where doctors reportedly said that his right eye was 50 per cent damaged and his left one was intact.

Police registered a case against George under Section 307 of the IPC.
