Puducherry, May 15 (UNI) Mr Harjit S Anand, Union Secretary, Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Allevation, today called on Puducerry Chief Minister N Rangasamy at his office here.
They were closetted for more than one hour.
According to official sources, Mr Anand informed the Chief Minister that Puducherry would get Rs 100 crore under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM), an housing and slum development programme, for which Rs 20 crore would be Puducherry's share.
Rupees 47 crore would be sanctioned as the first installment, for the construction of 1,750 houses at three places in Puducherry and Karaikal regions, once the share of Puducherry was provided, he said.
The administration would get the second installment in October or November this year, if the construction work of the first phase is completed in time, he added.
Mr Anand also suggested a tourism package connecting all important temples and churches here.
During the discussion, Mr Anand also wondered why the administration had failed to avail Rs 1,150 crore from HUDCO for tsunami rehabilitation project, the sources said.
