Ethiopian Berhane Adere aims at medal in Beijing Olympics

Bangalore, May 15 (UNI) International athlete Berhane Adere of Ethiopia want to utilise the Sunfeast World 10K Bangalore run to be held here on May 18 as a platform on the way to grab medal in the Beijing Olympics.

Addressing a newsconference after her arrival to participate in the 150,000 Dollar Run here on Sunday, the African record holder (10,000 m) said that "this is my last run before Olympics and I want to utilise this opportunity not only to improve upon my timing but also to win medal at the Beijing." Berhane Adere, who works for UNICEF as a goodwill ambassador for girls' education, has many three world titles to her credit including including Chicago Marathon in 2006 and 2007, IAAF World Half Marathon Championship in 2002 and bronze medal in the 2001 World Half Marathon Championships. She had won the 2003 World Indoors 3000 m.

Replying to a question about secret of her health, the 35-year-old runner, said that " I started running at the age of 18 and till date I have not suffered from any major disease or injury.

strict diet and healthy food may be behind." Her Coach Ianladbrooke said that Berhane Adere has the stamina and she is the medal prospect for her country. She is the only women participating in the Beijing Olympics from Ethiopia.
