Bangalore, May 15 (UNI) International athlete Berhane Adere of Ethiopia wants to utilise the Sunfeast World 10K Bangalore Run, to be held here on May 18, as a platform to grab a medal at the Beijing Olympics.
Addressing a news conference after her arrival to participate in the 1.50 lakh dollar run here on Sunday, the African recordholder (10,000 m) said, ''This is my last run before Olympics and I want to utilise this opportunity not only to improve my timing but also to win medal at the Beijing.'' Berhane Adere, who works for the UNICEF as a goodwill ambassador for girls' education, has many world titles to her credit,including Chicago Marathon in 2006 and 2007, IAAF World Half Marathon Championship in 2002 and bronze medal in the 2001 World Half Marathon Championships. She had won the 2003 World Indoors 3000 m.
To a question about the secret of her health, the 35-year-old runner said, ''I started running at the age of 18 and till date I have not suffered from any major disease or injury. Strict diet and healthy food may be behind (the good health).'' Her Coach Ianladbrooke said Berhane Adere had the stamina and was a medal prospect for her country.
She is the only woman from Ethiopia to participate in the Beijing Olympics.
