Gurdaspur, May 15 (UNI) Twelve school children were injured when a bus carrying them overturned near Babehali village on the Gurdaspur-Khanuwan road today.
According to police sources, the mishap occured due to poor visibility caused by smoke from the burning wheat straw fields lining both sides of the road. The driver of the bus belonging to a private school in an attempt to avoid hitting a tractor-trolley coming from the opposite side drove the vehicle into the fields.
The bus driver had intially failed to sight the tractor-trolley due to the thick layer of smoke. The injured students who were on their way to school were pulled out of the bus by a group of labourer, they said..
All the injured were admitted to civil hospital here, where the condition of four was stated to be serious, they added.
