Agartala, May 14 (UNI) A local court of South Tripura sent two senior police officers, who were arrested following the complaint of snatching a treasure chest from a tribal family on March 29, to judicial custody for another 14 days.

Commandant of the Tripura State Rifles (TSR) ninth battalion Manik Lal Majumdar and DSP (Enforcement) Pinaki Samanta were sent to police custody on April 2 and subsequently they had been sent to jail for further investigation into their alleged involvement in robbery of the treasure from Nagrai, a tribal hamlet in Amarpur subdivision of south Tripura.

Specific cases had been registered against the two officers for their involvement in robbery of a hidden treasure while CID sleuths had recovered the stolen treasure chest from an abandoned lake at Raticherra under Baikhora police station in South Tripura.

One Mrs Sumitradevi Jamatia had lodged a complaint that a group of TSR jawans, led by Mr Majumdar and Mr Samanta, took away their sacred chest with some valuables from her house when they were attending a social function in their neighbour's house.

After 42 days judicial custody in three phases, both of them were produced before the court yesterday but the court refused to grant them bail and sent them to jail for another 14 days.
