Six Maoist guerillas killed in encounter in south Bihar
Nawada, May 14 (UNI) At least six Maoist guerillas were killed and several injured in a fierce encounter with security forces near Mathi village in this extremist-dominated south Bihar district today.
Police said the encounter began when acting on a tip off that some ultras had assembled at a nearby jungle at Mathi for a possible operation, a joint team of the paramilitary force and the local police rushed to the spot and cordoned off the entire village.
On being challenged by the security forces, the extremists opened indiscriminate firing, injuring three CRPF jawans.
Soon the CRPF personnel retaliated and in the ensuing encounter, six Maoists were killed. Some also sustained injuries but were taken away by their comrades in the midst of heavy firing.
However, it was not yet known how many Maoist guerillas had sustained injuries.
Meanwhile, the security forces had recovered five rifles and several rounds of cartridges from the deceased extremists as their bodies had been sent for post-mortem.
The encounter was still continuing, when the last report came in.
