Prisoners resort to Gandhidhiri in Haryana
Hisar, May 14 (UNI) The time-tested ''Gandhigiri'' once again won the day, this time in the Central jail here.
To press for their long-standing demands regarding electricity and food, the prisoners today decided to follow the path shown by the Father of the Nation and refused to touch food.
According to prisoners even in the summers, the authorities were not using the jail generator during power-cuts, nor had they provided them with an 'angithi' (coal-oven) to re-heat the food even though ironically, the coal was being regularly provided for the purpose.
When the authorities paid no heed to their demands, all the immates decided to go on fast this morning.
On hearing of the protest, Jail Superintendent Shashi Ahlawat rushed to listen to their grievances.
She assured them of prompt remedial measures and pursuaded the prisoners to end their fast.
