Lucknow, May 14 (UNI) Over 15 people died accross Uttar Pradesh today due to duststorm followed by showers, which also brought a change in weather conditions.
Many others were reportedly wounded due to the high velocity wind that razed several huts, trees and hoardings in the state capital. Electric poles and communication services were also affected, sources said.
Reports from Mathura confirms death of five labourers, who were standing below a hut for shelter in rain. They died after the hut collapsed in Khanjarabas village. Three others were injured in this incident.
Two women were also burried alive under debris of a dilapidated wall in separate incidents reported from Mathura.
In Etah, six members of a family were charred after fire broke into their house due to strong wind. The deceased included three children and their mother.
In Sitapur, a woman was burried alive after a wall collapsed in Mohali area.
In a reminiscent incident reported from Girora village of Kotwali dehat area, six people, including three minors, died of burns injuries in a fire incident caused due to strong wind. Two minors were electrocuted due to heavy rain in Marhara area of Etah. At least eight people are said to be dead in the fire and wind related incidents in the district.
However, two fire incidents took place due to duststorm in Bakshi-ka-Talab and Madiyaon areas of Lucknow.
In Kanpur, a man was burried alive after a dilapidated wall of a temple collapsed.
The people of the state, however, got some respite from blistering heat after the rains, the Met department sources said.
In the last 24 hrs, the maximum temperature remained several notches below normal in Gorakhpur, Agra and Bareilly divisions.
Urai was recorded the hottest at 41 degrees Celsius.
The maximum day temperature in Allahabad stood at 41 degrees Celsius, followed by Varanasi 40.6, Jhansi 40.5, Kanpur and Agra 40.4, Lucknow 39.2, Bareilly 38.4, Gorakhpur 38.1, Meerut 38, which was one to two degrees below normal.
Meanwhile, the weatherman has forecast duststorm accompanied by thunderstorm for the next 24 hrs in the state.
