High alert across country following Jaipur blasts
New Delhi, May 13 (UNI) A high alert was sounded and security heightened across the country in the wake of the Jaipur serial blasts this evening, which left 60 people dead and 150 injured.
A high alert was sounded in the national capital.Barricading and checking of vehicles was being done all over the capital for suspicious-looking elements in the city.
Special checking posts were set up at check points bordering the neighbouring states of Delhi. In addition, patrolling by police and paramilitary forces around the city began and additional forces were rushed to sensitive areas of the city.
Besides, security forces began intensive search operations at railway stations, bus terminals and busy market places. Special attention was being focused on metro stations.
The Uttar Pradesh government sounded a high alert in the state.
Security measures were beefed up. Special security was also enforced in markets, malls, railway stations, hospitals and other crowded places.
A high alert was sounded in Hyderabad. Security was ramped up at vulnerable points in the city.
Karnataka also went in high alert mode. Director General of Police (DGP) R Sri Kumar told UNI that a high alert was sounded throughout the state. ''We are already in high alert mode due to the ongoing elections and heavy security arrangements are in place in most parts of the state,'' he said.
A red alert was declared in Mumbai by the city police, while enhancing security across Maharashtra. An order for holding 'nakabandi' (road blockade) all over the metropolis was issued. The police had stepped up security at all important places in the city and the state by deputing plainclothes policemen.
In Bihar, police sounded an alert across the state to avert any disruptive activities. State ADG(headquarter) Anil Sinha said instructions had been issued to all district police superintendents to take measures for providing security of vital installations, religious places and government offices in their respective areas.
In the wake of serial blasts, security was als beefed up at the world famous Sri Venkateswara temple.
