Grandfather, grandson in fierce fight for Assembly seat
Raichur, May 14 (UNI) Blood relationship matters little in electoral battles. This will be so in Deodurga constituency in Raichur district where a grandfather is being challenged by his grandson in the second phase of elections to Karnataka Assembly on May 16.
Mr Venkatesh Naik, a 74-year-old Congress veteran, who has more than four decades of experience in politics, will face a strong challenge from grandson Naik 'sub-junior,'the 33-year-old Shivangouda Naik, a political novice is contesting on a JD(S) ticket.
The political rivalry has had repercussions in the family with Shivangouda's father, shunning his son and taking sides with his dad. He is actively campaigning for the senior Naik.
On the other hand, junior Naik's mother has taken the side of her beloved son, defying her father-in-law.
