New Delhi, May 14 (UNI) The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) today allocated GSM spectrum to new players in Kerala, while denying it to the pre existing operators.
The allocation has been made to Venugopal Dhoot-promoted Datacom Solutions, BPL group company promoted Loop Telecom, Swan Telecom, Aska Projects, Tata Teleservices and Shyam Telelink.
All the new entrants have been allocated 4.4 MHz of spectrum each to start operations in the state.
However, no additional spectrum has been allocated to any of the existing players in the state which includes Aditya Birla group company Idea Cellular, Vodafone Essar, Bharti Airtel and government owned BSNL.
With about 88 lakh GSM subscribers, Kerala currently constitutes of just over four per cent of the total all-India subscriber base.
