Mumbai, May 14 (UNI) The MCOCA court today extended till May 20, the police custody of gangster-turned-politician Arun Gawli in an extortion case.
The court, meanwhile, sent 7 others to judicial custody till May 28.
Moving a remand application, the prosecution told the court that the investigation in the case is yet to be completed. Therefore, the custodial interrogation of the accused person was necessary to bring out the truth.
MCOCA court Judge M R Puranik then extended the police custody till May 20, while sending 7 others to judicial custody till May 28 in the same case.
Besides Gawli, the other accused included Vijay Ahir (Arun's younger brother), Dinesh Narkar, Sudheer Ghorpade, Ajit Rane, Sanjay Kamble, Shrikrishna Ghurav alias Babu and Mohammed Shafi Qureshi.
Vijay Ahir today moved an application, stating that his arrest under the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act is illegal. The court has fixed May 22 for hearing.
Meanwhile, the Saki Naka police today moved an application seeking custody of two accused Dinesh Narkar and Shrikrishan Gurav for murdering Shiv Sena corporattor Kamlakar Jamshandekar on March 2 last year.
Judge Puranik granted the permission and remanded the duo to police custody for 14 days.
