12706 catract surgeries performed in Kashmir
Srinagar, May 14 (UNI) The Jammu and Kashmir health department has performed 12706 cataract surgeries in various institutions of health services in Kashmir last year, an official spokesman said today.
He said the information was given at a review meeting, where measures to control blindness in the valley were discussed.
During 2006-2007, 12257 cases and during 2007-2008, 12706 cataract surgeries have been performed in various institutions of Health Services Kashmir.
Besides, 55048 school children have been screened for refractive error and 7144 of them were advised glasses for the errors.
He said Rs 2.45 lakh have been placed at the disposal of Health Services Kashmir.
Rs 1.25 lakh have been placed at the disposal of Director for information, education and communication activities.
It was informed that Radio Kashmir has been authorised for announcement of messages for control of blindness.
