Kohima, May 13: The general public of five villages successfully chased away the warring cadres of the NSCN, who were engaged in a gun battle between Xelhozhe and Seithekiema 'A' villages under Dimapur town.
Official sources said here today that the cadres of the NSCN-IM and NSCN (Unification) resorted to exchange of fire for over three hours in an open field and woodlands of Seithekiema village, bordering United, Xelhozhe, and Aoyim and Old Souwba villages, yesterday.
Later, the villagers of all the five villages brandished their crude weapons and warned the warring ultras to go away from the civilian populated areas immediately.
On hearing the warnings of the public, the NSCN(U) cadres agreed to leave the place on the condition that the other faction should also leave the place. Later, the villagers managed to convince both the warring factions and they left the place.
Police informed that there was no casualty, but unofficial sources said one NSCN(U) cadre was injured in the gun battle.
