Start JIPMER centre in Karaikal: Ramadass
Puducherry, May 13: PMK parliamentary party leader Prof M Ramadass has urged the Centre to start a branch of JIPMER hospital in Karaikal region of the Union Territory.
In a letter to Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Anbumani Ramadoss, he pointed out that Karaikal, which was recently elevated into a district, about 160 km from here, has a population of 1.72 lakh.
For medical facility, only the government general hospital was available in the region where speciality treatments were not available, he said and pointed out as Karaikal was an accident- prone area and close to NH-47, a special centre of JIPMER be started in the region.
Initially, the centre could be started in a rented building with adequate facilities to diagnose the diseases and specialists from JIPMER could be deputed there once a week for better follow-up treatment. In case of emergency, patients from the region could be brought to JIPMER in an ambulance from the centre, he stated in his letter.
