Separation of Khaga tehsil invites debate
Fatehpur, May 13 (UNI) Political leaders and voluntary organisations of Fatehpur and Kaushambi districts are in a face-off over proposed inclusion of Khaga tehsil of the district in Kaushambi.
Kaushambi district was formed after division of Allahabad district. The newly carved district was given its current status by Ms Mayawati, who was the Chief Minister then also, sources said.
However, an influential cabinet minister from Kaushambi had now started taking initiatives for inclusion of Fatehpur's Khaga tehsil into the former.
As per the proposal, five police stations -- Khaga kotwali, Kishunpur, Sultanpur Ghosh, Khakredu and Dhata -- would be separated from the tehsil in question and merged into Kaushambi.
The issue has created furore among the people of this district who have commenced protest through 'dharnas' and by handing over memorandums.
Kaushambi was formed after separation of 11 police stations from the Allahabad district, sources added.
If a fresh separation is effected, Kaushambi will have a total of 16 police stations. Fatehpur would also be left with the same number after exclusion of five stations against the present 21.
Meanwhile talking to UNI, BJP MLA from Khaga Dhunni Singh said ''the separation of Khaga will not take place at any cost.'' The residents of Khaga have also visited Lucknow and apprised Revenue Council's president about their views in the matter.
