Mumbai, May 13: The Sensex slipped by 108.04 points on the Bombay Stock Exchange today to end lower at 16,752.86 after shedding early gains in a choppy trading session. After resuming the day on a positive note above 17K level, the Sensex hit a day's high of 17,085.63 and gained about 225 points from its previous close of 16,860 in early afternoon trade.
However, it failed to hold the gains and skid 163.43 points to
touch a low at 16,697.47 on lack of buying interest in late trade.
Meanwhile, the broader based S&P CNX Nifty index of National
Stock Exchange lost 54.85 points to close below 5,000 level at
4,957.80. However, the market breadth was remained positive
throughout the day. 1366 shares advanced as compared to 1341 that
declined and 76 remained unchanged on BSE.
The BSE Midcap index ended marginally up at 6,956.81, while the Smallcap index marginally to close at 8,397.71. Both the indices outperformed the Sensex.
The total turnover on BSE was quoted at Rs 6596 crore as compared to Rs 6,007.51 crore in the previous session. Turnover in NSE's futures&options segment was Rs 38107.72 crore as compared to Rs 41000.8 crore yesterday.
