New Delhi, May 13 (UNI) The Supreme Court today refused to entertain a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking directions to the Union government to drive through diplomatic channels to get the ban imposed by France government on the use of turbans by Sikh students lifted.

A bench comprising Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan and Justices R V Raveendran and M K Sharma dismissed the petition filed by Jaswant Singh Juneja on the grounds that the apex court could not issue such directions to the government and the petitioners must approach the government directly.

Counsel for the government, however, informed the court that it was already in touch with France and was trying to get the ban lifted as turban is the symbol of Sikh religion and such a ban hurt their religious sentiments.
