SC adjourns hearing in Indra Sagar Dam case
New Delhi, May 13 (UNI) The Narmada Bachao Andolan (NBA) has made an oral request to the Supreme Court to restrain the Madhya Pradesh Government from raising the height of the Indra Sagar Dam any further in view of the coming monsoon season.
A bench, headed by Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan, on Monday, however, adjourned the hearing of the matter till August without passing any order on the verbal request of the counsel for NBA.
The NBA counsel had earlier pleaded with the court that any further rise in the height of the dam will increase the area of submergence zone, ousting more and more people who will be rendered homeless.
Monsoon is very active in the region in the months of June and July.
Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the NBA said in a press release that there was no hearing in the case and the apex court had merely adjourned the matter. A section of the media had ''completely misrepresented the proceedings'' in the court, he added.
