Amritsar, May 13 (UNI) Congress today expressed apprehension that the clash of political ambitions between ruling coalition partners, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and BJP, would lead to instability, uncertainty and ineffectiveness in the governance of Punjab.
''Unprecedented violence among the leaders and workers of the coalition partners which resulted in deaths, grave injuries and arson during the Zila Parishad and Panchayat Samiti elections, is a pointer to the largescale communal violence and clashes in future due to the inherent conflict between the two coalition partners,'' Bir Devinder Singh, chief Punjab Congress Committee spokesman, said here in a press conference.
''The Party feels that worst is still to follow and Punjab may again witness the dreadful era of turmoil and turbulence due to the communal politics of the Akalis and BJP,'' he said.
The Congress also asserted that the present alliance Government had all along been a divided house. It is only lust for power and political opportunism that had kept them together, he said.
Daring the BJP to withdraw support from the Shiromani Akali Dal Government ''in the interest of the State and the people'', he said ''The present humiliation and ineffectiveness suffered by the BJP at the hands of Akalis should teach them a lesson before it is too late and they are totally wiped off from the political scene of Punjab.'' Pradesh Congress President Rajinder Kaur Bhattal has decided to call the emergency meeting of all Congress MLAs, MPs, Ex-MPs, Ex-Ministers Ex- MLAs and all the PCC office-bearers and all functionaries of the Party at district and block level, including its frontal organisations, to assemble on May 15 here, he said.
After the meeting, the Congressmen would hold a procession to Jallianwala Bagh here to take a solemn oath to ''protect and safeguard the democracy and freedom of the people which is now under grave threat due to a similar situation of brutalities that was prevalent during the times of General Dyer'', the PCC spokesman said.
''The Congress would vow to undertake any sacrifice in the interest of the people and would not get bogged down like the BJP which, in order to remain in power, can suffer any amount of humiliation, insult and even injury to their self and self-respect,'' he said.
