Rodrigues calls for developing innovative educational programmes
Chandigarh, May 13 (UNI) Punjab Governor and Chandigarh Union Territory Administrator, General (Retd.) S F Rodrigues today called for developing innovative educational programmes to inculcate a sense of belonging among students to serve the nation.
Presiding over a meeting of Board of Governors of Punjab Public School, Nabha, here, he voiced serious concern over the growing trend of fulfillment of personal ambitions and short term goals by individuals, saying '' we have to reverse this trend''.
There is a need for initiating holistic result-oriented programmes by education institutions, aimed at instilling among the students a feeling of nationalism and traditional values, he said.
Strongly advocating the need for restructuring the syllabi of higher and secondary education, General Rodrigues, however, said that this process had already started and the focus was on making young students professionally competent.
Emphasising the need for further improving career counselling programmes, the Governor called for proper orientation towards army career.
He expressed happiness when the Headmaster of the school pointed out that this year three students made it to National Defence Academy (NDA).
Punjab Finance Minister Manpreet Badal while taking part in the deliberations, informed that he would give a grant of Rs five lakh for each student who made to NDA from this school. He assured more financial support to the school for promotion its academic programmes.
