Chennai, May 13 (UNI) The 85th birthday of DMK patriarch and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, which falls on June 3, will be a low key affair this year.
In a statement here, the 84-year-old octogenarian leader appealed to party workers to desist from meeting him and organising any grand function to mark the occasion as he would be away from the city during that entire week.
He said ''Considering the state of my mind and health condition, I appeal to the party workers and friends to give me ''rest'' from accepting greetings on that day.'' He said party workers should not ignore this appeal and added he had to take such a stand due to some unavoidable circumstances.
Meanwhile, DMK general secretary and Finance Minister K Anbazhagan, replying to a demand for grants for Tamil Development in the state Assembly, hinted that the Chief Minister should celebrate the occasion, as it provides an opportunity for party workers from various districts to meet him and greet him personally.
''That was the only day for the party cadres from every nook and corner of the state and also from outside, to meet the Chief Minister,'' he added.
