Need to develop agri as a business venture: ICAR
Shillong, May 13: Deputy Director General of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) Dr K M Bujarbaruah has advocated for massive capacity building along with initiatives for spreading awareness for the development of the farming communities.
Speaking at an interactive session of scientists held here yesterday, Dr Bujarbaruah urged the local farmers to form associations to develop their marketing skills.
''There is a need to strengthen the rural research system with focus on developing agriculture as a business venture and to meet food requirements, a system to shift from plenty to scanty in cultivation,'' he said.
Dr C D Mayee, Chairman, Agricultural Scientists Recruitment Board, urged the ICAR to provide support systems to the farming communities.
