'National urban water awards' on May 15

Hyderabad, May 13: Union Urban Development Minister Jaipal Reddy will present the National Urban Water Awards 2008 during a function to be held here on May 15 at the Administrative Staff College of India.

The awards, instituted by the Ministry of Urban Development (MoUD), in partnership with the Administrative Staff College of India (ASCI) and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), were aimed at honouring urban local governments and water boards that had taken significant steps towards effective water management and improvement in service delivery, a statment said.

MoUD Secretary M Ramachandran and Joint Secretary A K Mehta would also participate in the award ceremony. Civil society members, private sector organisations and representatives from city governments and water boards across the country were participating in the event.

The awards, to be presented for the first time, received over 60 nominations from various cities across the country, of which 16 were shortlisted for consideration by the Advisory Committee, chaired by the MoUD Joint Secretary.

The shortlisted nominees would make presentations before the Advisory Committee on May 15 between 1000 hrs and 1700 hrs for the final selection of the winners.
