Dubai, May 13: Visiting External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee called on his UAE counterpart Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan in Abu Dhabi and reviewed security and military ties between the two countries.
The two leaders also reviewed the regional political situation and discussed ways to ensure food security in the context of rising price of rice. Sheikh Abdullah welcomed the Indian Minister and praised the progressive ties of friendship between the two countries. During the meeting, Sheikh Abdullah reviewed with Mr Mukherjee progress of the UAE-India joint committee, ways to enhance ties in security and military fields and cooperation in addressing the worldwide increase in food prices.
They exchanged views on the current regional and international developments and Iran's continuation in perpetuating its occupation of the three UAE islands Greater Tunb, Lesser Tunb and Abu Musa, the official news agency WAM said.
Also discussed was the situation in Lebanon, the West Asia peace process, developments in Iraq, the Iranian nuclear programme issue with the International Atomic Energy Agency, as well as latest developments in the Indian subcontinent.
Sheikh Abdullah hosted a dinner banquet in honour of the visiting Indian External Affairs Minister and his accompanying delegation.
