Goa cabinet gives nod to modify interest free loan scheme
Panaji, May 13 (UNI) Goa Cabinet today gave its nod for modification of interest free loans scheme for higher education.
Speaking to mediapersons after the cabinet meeting here, Chief Minister Digamber Kamat said the government has taken the decision as there was a demand from parents of students to modify the scheme.
The scheme will also be extended to under graduate level students and students from outside the state, who are studying in Goa, Mr Kamat said.
The loan amount has also been raised from Rs two lakh to Rs three lakh and from Rs three lakh to four lakh for education within the country and from Rs four lakh to Rs five lakh and Rs five lakh to Rs six lakh for those studying abroad.
The Cabinet has also approved sale of essential commodities at controlled rates by the State Marketing Federation, Horticulture Corporation, Agriculture outlets and VKS societies through public distribution outlets in the state. The sale price of different commodities will be Rs 5, less than the market rate.
