Flights to Port Blair rescheduled
Kolkata, May 13 (UNI) Several flights to Port Blair from Kolkata had to be cancelled as well as rescheduled till 1000 hours this morning because of waterlogging on the Port Blair airport runway for the past two days following heavy rainfall.
Air Traffic Control (ATC) sources here said the Port Blair runway was unfit for flight operations till 1000 hours following damage to the runway lights by the flooding.
Two Air India flights, including one additional flight, scheduled to depart for Port Blair this morning, were cancelled and another Deccan Air flight was also cancelled because of the absence of navigational facilities at Port Blair.
Meanwhile, other flights later in the morning had been rescheduled and were departing from Kolkata after an average delay of one to two hours. Seven flights operate between Kolkata and Port Blair daily.
Yesterday, many flights had to return from Port Blair for the second day owing to the runway being flooded following heavy rainfall.
