Delhi restrict Kolkata to 133 for six

By Staff

Kolkata, May 13 (UNI) A tight bowling spell by former Australian pacer Glenn McGrath and two quick wickets by Yo Mahesh restricted Kolkata Knight Riders to a paltry 133 for six against Delhi Daredevils in the DLF-IPL T20 cricket match at the Eden Gardens here tonight.

Riders won the toss and chose to bat, but openers Salman Butt and Akash Chopra faced some magnificent spell by McGrath and Sangwan, who hardly gave any scope to the batsmen to play strokes.

While Akash went cheaply for 13 off Sangwan, Salman played some fabulous strokes all over the field to score a splendid 48 from 44 balls studded with seven rollicking hits to fence.

After Chopra, captain Sourav joined Salman, but he also returned to the pavilion on seven when he was castled by Mahesh.

With two batsmen going to the pavilion at quick intervals, the Riders started tottering at 47 for two when David Hussey came in to join Salman and their partnership of 40 runs gave a semblance of respectability to the Kolkata team.

Hussey was out for 31 off Mahroof and the host team again plunged into deep crisis as wickets started falling like ninepins with none being able to give credence to the Riders score.
